Lexington Herald-Leader (KY) — Sunday, October 24, 1993 SOMERSET -- Geneva Coffey Thompson, 72, Bronston, wife of Cecil Thompson, died Friday. Services 2 p.m. Monday, Quinton Baptist Church. Visitation 3 p.m. today, Pulaski Funeral Home. Geneva Rankin Coffey and Cecil Rufus Thompson were married on 29 October 1949 in Albany, Clinton Co., KY. Cecil Rufus Thompson, 85 years of age, of Bronston, Kentucky passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at Norton Hosparus in Louisville, Kentucky. He was was born in Quinton, Kentucky on December 11, 1922 and was the sixth son of Walter and Lula Roberts Thompson. He was married to Geneva Coffey Thompson in Albany, Kentucky on October 29, 1949. Geneva preceded him in death on October 22, 1993. He is survived by four children, Margie & Wendell Vaughn of Indianapolis, Indiana, Lin & David Garretson of Seattle, Washington, Cecil Jr. (Bud) & Patricia Thompson, Corydon, Indiana, Randy & Rhonda Thompson of Bronston, Kentucky; five grandchildren, Kimberly & Mark Hanshew, Kevin & Karla Vaughn, Jason & April Thompson, Travis & Monica Thompson, Dustin & Ashley Thompson; 7 great grandchildren, Andrew Hanshew, Luke and Logan Vaughn, Lauren and Logan Thompson, Hanna and Olivia Thompson; 5 sister-in-laws, Anna Grace, Katherine, Mary Nell and Ruth Ann Thompson, and Dorothy Coffey; special friend, Viola Nicholas and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his wife, parents, brothers; Leslie, James, Elza, Charlie, Harvey, Lloyd, Dexter, and Cressel Thompson. As a young man he served in the U.S. Army during WW II. During the years of raising a family he resided in Indianapolis, IN from 1956 – 1971. There he was a machinist at the Beuhler Corp. He later retired from Techumseh in Somerset, Kentucky where he worked many years as a supervisor. He was of the Methodist faith. The family would like to thank Mary Perdue for her special care, also the ladies of Lifeline who together enabled him to live at home, until the past few weeks which were spent at the Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. Funeral services were held on Saturday, September 20, 2008 at the Memory Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home at 11:00am with Bro James Allen & Bro Bud Thompson officiating. Interment followed in the Quinton Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post # 38 Honor Guard. Lake Cumberland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. |
