Martin, 100, a resident of Peshastin for the past 55 years, died Saturday afternoon, March 9, 2002, in the Cashmere Convalescent Center. He was born on March 3, 1902 to Richard Barrier and Mary Susan Martin at Cooperville, KY. The family later moved to Oil Valley, KY, where he grew up and received his early education and helped work the family farm. On July 13, 1924, he married Bonnie E. Coffey at Oneida, TN. They moved to Monticello, KY and then to New Castle, IN, where he was employed by Chrysler Corp. for 20 years. They later moved to Westport, IN, where he farmed for three years, and during the war years, he had to improvise many times regarding tools and equipment. In 1947, they moved to Peshastin, where he later purchased and operated a fruit orchard and for nine years was also employed by the Peshastin School District as a custodian and school bus driver until his retirement in 1967. He was a member of the Mid Valley Missionary Baptist Church in Dryden, of which, he was instrumental in its development. He was extremely proud of his family and was a great fan and supporter of the P-D Schools. Lib enjoyed hiking into the Snow Lakes and later in life, enjoyed fishing at Moses Lake. He was an excellent sportsman and hunter. Lib is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law: Glen and Florella Martin and Richard and Geneva Martin, all of Wenatchee; Robert Martin of Peshastin and Ronald and Tina Martin of Oak Harbor; one sister, Leila Crabtree of Monticello, KY; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1981 and a daughter, Elva Carr in 1956 and one brother, Mike. Funeral Service of Commemoration to Celebrate the Life of Lib G. Martin will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, March 13, 2002, in the Ward's Funeral Chapel with Pastor Bob Jackson officiating. The service will conclude in the Chapel with private interment in the Peshastin Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 12 noon to 6 p.m. at the Ward's Funeral Chapel.
