Mrs. Minnie Lee Coffey, 88, retired general store owner, died June 9, 1992, at Cannon Memorial Hospital in Banner Elk. Funeral is 11 a.m. Friday at Foscoe Christian Church. Visitation is 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.

Survivors are her sister, Mrs. Emma Moore of Foscoe; grandsons, Terry Wagner of Johnson City, Tenn., Richard Wagner, Michael Wagner, George Wagner.

Minnie Lee Ella Coffey and Herbert Spencer "Hub" Wagner were married circa 1926 in North Carolina. Herbert Spencer "Hub" Wagner, son of William Judson Wagner and Myra Ann Aldridge, was born on 29 March 1896 in Shulls Mill, Watauga Co., NC.¹³⁵³¹ He murdered two men on 30 December 1926 in Foscoe, Watauga Co., NC.³²⁰⁰⁹ Herbert's murder trial was granted a change of venue on 11 August 1927 from Boone, Watauga Co. to Wilkesboro, Wilkes Co., NC³²⁰¹⁰ Herbert went to trial on 15 August 1927 in Wilkesboro, Wilkes Co., NC for murder of Earl Moody.³²⁰¹¹ At a trial ending on 20 August 1927 he was sentenced to prison in Wilkesboro, Wilkes Co., NC for murder of Earl Moody. Wagner shot and killed the unarmed Moody on Christmas Day, 1926, and for that he was sentenced of 15 to 20 years at hard labor in the state penitentiary.^32012,32013 The presiding judge refused to allow Wagner's return to Watauga Co. "on the ground that sentiment in Watauga county is too strong against Wagner." According to news item, his was an error in reporting.³²⁰¹⁴ Herbert went to trial for a second murder on Christmas Day on 16 March 1928 in North Wilkesboro, Wilkes Co., NC for killing Dexter Byrd and was found guilty of Second Degree Murder, and was sentenced to 25 to 30 years, sentence to run concurrently with previous sentence.³²⁰¹⁵ Herbert Spencer was sentenced to 25 to 30 years in prison on 16 March 1928 for murder of Dexter Byrd.³²⁰¹⁶

He lived with his parents in Watauga Co., NC on 5 January 1920. Stanford lived with his parents in Watauga Co., NC on 11 April 1930.
