Mrs. Thelma Coffey Deal
80, retired secretary, died May 26, 1995, at Frye Regional Medical Center. Funeral is 2 p.m. Monday at Bass-Smith Funeral Home. Visitation is 7 to 8:30 tonight.

Survivors are her brothers, Homer Coffey of Boone, Wade Coffey, Wayne Coffey, Owen Coffey, all of Blowing Rock; sisters, Mrs. Irene Woody of Lenoir, Mrs. Jewell Moody, Mrs. Maria Broyhill, both of Blowing Rock, Mrs. Helen Carroll of Boone; stepson, Lewis Deal of Charlotte.

Mrs. Thelma Coffey Deal, 80, of Hickory, native and former resident of Watauga County, died unexpectedly, Friday, May 26, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory.

She was born Feb. 28, 1915, and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II. She was a member of Corinth Reformed Church of Christ and was a retired secretary with Kent Coffey & Co.

Survivors include one stepson, Lewis W. Deal of Charlotte; four sisters, Irene Woody of Lenoir, Jewell C. Moody and Maria Broyhill, both of Blowing Rock, and Helen Carroll of Boone; and four brothers, Homer Coffey and Wade Coffey, both of Boone, and Wayne Coffey and Own [sic] Coffey, both of Blowing Rock. Five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Mary Norris Coffey; her husband, Mr. Odell C. Deal; and one stepson, Mr. Robert B. Deal.

Services were Monday afternoon at the Bass-Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Hickory, officiated by the Rev. Jamie Fonville. Burial followed in Catawba Memorial Park.
