He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served his country honorably during WW II with the 94th Medical Gas Treatment Unit. Prior to his retirement, he worked for D.M. Conner as a truck driver. He enjoyed wood working, watching NASCAR and cheering on the Atlanta Braves.In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Thomas Eugene Coffey; sisters, Margie Simmons and Lorene Monroe; brothers-in-law, Johnny Humphries and Paul Monroe.Survivors include his loving children, Barbara Mayo and husband, Tommy, Chester Coffey and Jake Coffey and wife, Karen; sister, Virginia Humphries; grandchildren, Tommy Weade, Matthew Coffey, Paige Hensley, Ryan Coffey and Taylor Weade; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at Calvary United Methodist Church Cemetery with Pastor John Hamric officiating.
