Officiating were to be the Revs. Carl Osborne and Cannon Ward. Burial followed in the church cemetery. She was born December 13, 1910 in Watauga County and was a daughter of the late Wiley and Eleanor Wright McCroskey. She is survived by her husband, Mack Coffey. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, Edward and Lonnie Ray Coffey of Oceanside, Cal., and Steven Coffey of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Bertha Mae Akers of Cambridge, Md., Mrs. Gene (Virginia) Bailey of Richmond, Va., and Mrs. Floyd (Nellie) Coffey of Blowing Rock; three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Farley [sic] [a daughter] of Blowing Rock, Mrs. Mae Woodie of Jonas Ridge, and Mrs. Lula Whisnant of Blowing Rock; 17 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Clayton Coffey. Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home of Boone was in charge of arrangements. We children all know you are not really dead, but asleep in Jesus for the many years you taught us about God, and lived a Christian life before us. Sarah Elle Nora Wright, a daughter of Thomas and Margaret Ann Coffey Wright and, wife of Samuel McCroskey as well as mother of Lany Esther McCroskey Coffey, wife of Clayton McDonald Coffey, was an heir to the settlement of the estate of Thomas Lemuel Wright. Because Sarah was deceased in 1942, her share of the estate fell to her children, one of which was Lany Esther. The property was eventually sold on Nov. 17, 1971 to Thomas J. Wright for the sum of $5,400. Apparently, and according to McCroskey family history, approximately seven acres remain in the estate and unsold in 2007.
