She was born February 9, 1911 in Caldwell County to the late Sam C. and Josie Dellinger Coffey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband William L. Thompson; a son, Jason Thompson, three brothers, Mac, Boyd and Wilson Coffey; three sisters, Pauline Bell, Lydia Gragg and Alberta Jennings and a grandson, Steven H. Thompson. Mrs. Thompson was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal faith. Survivors include two sons, John T. Thompson of Hudson and Charles Thompson of Lenoir; two daughters, Ms. Linda Melton and Ms. Carolyn Hamby, both of Lenoir; and a sister, Mrs. Deatte Bolick of Lenoir; 11 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. The funeral services will be held Sunday, January 7, 2007 at 4 p.m. at Covenant Baptist Church conducted by Rev. David Bean, Rev. Allen Younce and Dr. Marion Poythress. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. David Payne. The family will receive friends today from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers will be Roger Coffey, Michael Kale, Scott Triplett, Keith Triplett, Brent Thompson and Sammy Coffey. Honorary pallbearers will be the great-grandsons. William L. Thompson, 81, of White Pine Drive, Granite Falls, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 1995, at Caldwell County Hospice. He was born Jan. 11, 1914 in Warren County to the late Joe and Ava Rivers Thompson. Thompson was a retired driver from Caldwell Freight Lines and he attended Cornerstone Worship Center. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Minnie Coffey Thompson of the home; two sons, John Thomas Thompson of Hudson and Charles Thompson of Lenoir; two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Carolyn) Hamby of Lenoir and Linda Thompson Melton of Morganton; two sisters, Lucy Coll? and Kathleen Height of Casti?; 12 grandchildren, four step grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren. The funeral is today at Cornerstone Worship Center at 2 p.m. with the Revs. L. J. Crump, Bob ?, and Allen Younce officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Brent, Steve, and Eric Thompson, Terry Kale, James Bass and Tommy Wilson.
