Alfred Boyd L. Coffey, 68, of Route 5, Box 188, Lenoir, formerly of Star Route, Lenoir, died Tuesday, July 3, 1990, at the residence.

He was born May 21, 1922, in Avery County to the late Samuel Monroe and Josephine Dellinger Coffey.

Mr. Coffey was a retired nurseryman and founder of the Boyd Coffey & Sons Nursery. He was a World War II Army veteran, a member of the New Hopewell Baptist Church, and a member of Careys' Flat Wildlife.

Survivors are his wife, Mary Ethelene Woodie Coffey of the home; three sons, Boyd Coffey Jr. of Greenville, S.C., John Samuel "Sammy" Coffey and Roger D. Coffey, both of Lenoir; four daughters, Mrs. Mary Kathy Gragg, Mrs. Jay "Lela" Rupard, Mrs. Richard "Kaye" Shoemake and Mrs. Alan "Bernice" Smith all of Lenoir; two brothers, Mack Coffey and Wilson Coffey, both of Blowing Rock; four sisters, Mrs. Lydia C. Gragg of Granite Falls, Mrs. William L. "Minnie" Thompson, Mrs. Pauline Bell and Mrs. Howard "Deatte" Bolick, all of Lenoir; 24 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at the New Hopewell Baptist Church with the Rev. Max Greene and the Rev. David Benefield officiating. The body will lie is state 30 minutes. Burial will be in the family cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home.

Mary Etheline Woodie, daughter of John Logan Woodie and Virgie Ethel Dellinger, was born on 11 May 1924 in Avery Co., NC.2114 Mary died on 18 June 2002 at the age of 78 in Hickory, Catawba Co., NC and was buried at Sam Coffey Family Cemetery in Lenoir, Caldwell Co., NC.36401,36402,36403,36404
