Date of birth depends on date of Benjamin's marriage. If Benjamin married about 1773-4, then William was born 1774-5, otherwise he was probably born in 1778. William died in Yadkin River Valley, Caldwell Co., NC circa April 1847.278 It is not proven that William was the son of Benjamin. This might be the William Coffey, Sr. in the 1840 Wilkes Co., NC census, enumerated in Capt. Stewart's Dist., at Head of Yadkin, There was also a William Coffey who belonged to 2d Regt (McGimpsy's) NC Militia during the war of 1812-1815.
