He lived with his parents in Watauga Co., NC on 12 June 1900. He registered for the WWI draft on 5 June 1917 in Caldwell Co., NC.¹⁹²⁴⁰ Joseph died in Duffield, Scott Co., VA on 15 October 1968 and was buried at the Coffey Family Cemetery in East Stone Gap, Wise Co., VA in October 1968 .^19241,19242

Frank died on 28 March 1999 at the age of 79 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital in Lenoir, Caldwell Co., NC and was buried at Frank Townsend Cemetery in Lenoir, Caldwell Co., NC on 30 March 1999.¹⁹²⁴⁹ Obituary, unknown periodical, unknown date Frank Townsend Frank Lewis Townsend, 79, of Frank Townsend Road, Lenoir, died Sunday, March 28, 1999 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. He was born Oct. 4, 1919 in Wise County, Va. to the late Joseph A. and Rosie Coffey Townsend. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Jack Townsend and three sisters, Polly Coffey, Dorie Bowens and Nettie Ford. Mr. Townsend was retired from Thomasville Chair and was of Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife, Allie Jennie Townsend of the home; three sons, Lewis Townsend, Paul Townsend and Earl Townsend, all of Lenoir; four daughters, Mrs. Gaylord (Carolyn) Townsend and Mrs. J Henry (Mary) Smith, all of Lenoir and Mrs. Tim (Frances) Laws of Hudson; four brothers, Virgil Townsend of Lenoir, Bill Townsend and Jesse Townsend, both of Duffield, Va. and Wheeler Townsend of Clinchport, Va; one sister, Nellie Bowens of Duffield, Va.; 15 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. The Funeral is 2 p.m. today at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Ed Greene and Jerry Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Frank Townsend Cemetery. Mr. Townsend's grandsons and sons-in-law will serve as pallbearers.
