She was born May 16, 1909 in Caldwell County to the late Pinkney David Philyaw and Lillie Phillips Philyaw. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wesley P. Coffey; two sons, Albert and Ira Coffey; one daughter, Cora Lee Coffey; four brothers, David, James, Floyd and Herman Philyaw; and one sister, Jennie Pritchard. Mrs. Coffey was a homemaker and a member of Green Valley Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons, William T. Coffey of Collettsville and Claude M. Coffey of Hudson; one daughter, Carrie Coffey Cook of Lenoir; one sister, Millie Bowman of Collettsville, 11 grandchildren and 15 grat-grandchildren. The funeral is 2 p.m. today at Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Gragg officiating. Burial will be in Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.
