Epsey Greene

Epsey Coffey Greene, 84, of Hollywood Ridge Road, Lenoir, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at Lenoir Healthcare Center.

She was born Oct. 14, 1918 in Watauga County to the late Robey J. and Nellie Moretz Coffey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Clarence Coffey, Lenny Coffey and Frank Coffey, and two sisters, Gracie Smith and Eula Greene.

Mrs. Greene was a homemaker and a member of Yadkin Valley Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday school teacher.

Survivors include her husband, Arvil H. Greene of the home; two sons, Otis H. Greene and Maynard C. Greene, both of Lenoir; two daughters, Ms. Juanita Dare Sparks and Mrs. Allen (Treva) Hennessee, both of Lenoir; nine grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Revs. Bobby Pritchard and Paul Dula. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers will be: Lonnie Greene, Henry Sutton, Clayton Watson, Dean Barrett, Mark Dula and Dylan Faulk.

Epsey Louise Coffey and Arvil Hansford Greene were married on 30 March 1940 in Caldwell Co., NC.³⁰⁸⁰¹ Arvil Hansford Greene, son of Hugh Alexander Greene and Mollie Church, was born on 2 January 1917 in Watauga Co., NC.³⁰⁸⁰² He lived with his parents in Blue Ridge Twp., Watauga Co., NC on 8 January 1920. Arvil died on 2 January 2011 at the age of 94 at Lenoir Health Care Center in Lenoir, Caldwell Co., NC and was buried at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens Mausolem in Lenoir, Caldwell Co., NC on 6 January 2011.^30803,30804

Arvil H. Greene, age 94, of Hollywood Ridge Road, Lenoir, went home to meet his wife of 65 years Sunday, January 2, 2011 at Lenoir HealthCare Center. He was born January 2, 1917 in Watauga County to the late Alexander H. and Mollie Church Greene. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Epsey Coffey Greene; two brothers, Christopher L. Greene and Milton A. Greene; and one sister, Arthie Baker.

Mr. Greene was a lifelong farmer and also worked many years in sawmilling. He was a member of Yadkin Valley Baptist Church where he served as Sunday school Superintendent and Deacon. He was active in Caldwell County Fair for 55 years, State Forest Warden for 60 years and founder of Caldwell County Farmer’s Market and managed it for 20 years.

Survivors include two sons, Otis H. Greene and wife Miriam and Maynard C. Greene and wife Viola, both of Lenoir; two daughters, Mrs. Dare Ensley and husband Glenn and Mrs. Treva Hennessee and husband Allen, both of Lenoir; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Bobby Pritchard. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens of Lenoir.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:00 at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers will be: Lonnie Greene, Henry Sutton, Bobby Sparks, Dylan Faulk, Clayton Watson and Dustin Carlton.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Noah Barrett and Logan Barrett.
