He was born March 3, 1939 in Caldwell County to the late Clarence Alexander Coffey and Sarah Bryant Coffey. He was retired from Mays Meat. He was a member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church where he was a Deacon. He was a past president of the Baton Ruritan Club. He served nine years in the National Guard. Survivors include his wife, Odena Starnes Coffey of the home; a step-son, Philip Annas of Connelly Springs; a daughter, Melanie Gaines and a step-daughter, Toni Pruitt, both of Granite Falls and four brothers, James Coffey of Lenoir, Wayne Coffey of Lenoir, Raymond Coffey of Hudson and Alex Coffey of Lenoir. The family will receive friends Friday, July 20 from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Pendry's Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Saturday, July 21, 2007 at 10 a.m. in Pendry's Chapel with Reverend John Brashear and speaker Ron Beane officiating. Burial will follow at Lovelady Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Coffey, Jeff Laney, Brian Church, David Coffey and James Ferguson.
