Mr. Rich was born May 12, 1931 in Watauga County, a son of the late Roby Leonard Rich and Cenia Hatley Rich. He was collector of raw materials, for over 46 years, for Greer Labs, and a member of Boone Fork Baptist Church. Mr. Rich is survived by his wife, Georgia Ruth Rich of the home; five daughters, Carol Stanton and husband Dennis of Lenoir, Connie Rich and husband Derick Anderson of Purlear, Floretta Rich and companion Tom Hollar of Valle Crucis, Melissa Fox and husband Gary of Banner Elk, and Jennie Kirby and husband Allan of Blowing Rock; two sons, James Rich and wife Melody, and Alvin Rich, all of Blowing Rock; three sisters, Jane Rich Crisco of Landis, North Carolina, Jenny Eckard and husband Harold of Hickory, and Pearl Crandall of Lenoir, and one brother, Jesse Rich of Lenoir. He is also survived by 30+ grandchildren, 30+ great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Elizabeth Rich, Louise Trivette, and Frances Burns, and six brothers, Earl Rich, Henry Rich, Spencer Rich, Leonard Rich, Richard Rich and Herman Pearson. Funeral services for Calvin Thomas Rich will be conducted Sunday afternoon, June 26, 2011, at 2:00 o'clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 1:00 until 2:00 o'clock. Officiating will be Reverend Carl Osborne. Burial will follow in White Springs Cemetery in Blowing Rock. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon, from 1:00 until 2:00 o'clock, at the funeral home, prior to the service. Survivors include his wife Jennie Travis Ritch; a son, Richard Sherman Ritch of Granite Falls; a daughter, Christine Ellen Ritch Neal, also of Granite Falls; two brothers, Thomas Calvin Rich of Blowing Rock and Jesse Bergin Rich of Lenoir; three sisters, Jenny Devada Rich Eckard of Hickory, Lois Jane Rich Crisco of Landis, N.C., and Lillie Pearl Rich Crandall of Lenoir; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Ritch of Granite Falls.
