Mr. Bob Byron Tolbert, 81, of Blowing Rock Blvd., Lenoir, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003, at Watauga Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 26, 1921, in Caldwell County, to the late E.E. and Martha Estes Tolbert.

Mr. Tolbert was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and retired from the Caldwell County Animal Control Shelter where he served as rabies control officer. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Edna Harmon Tolbert; one son, Roger Tolbert; and two daughters, Mrs. Mabel McLean and Linda Ford and husband, Gene, all of Lenoir; one brother, Estes Tolbert of Whittier; and two sisters, Mrs. Ruby Maise of Visila, Calif. and Mrs. Connie Andrews of Taylorsville. He is also survived by five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Dow Tolbert, Lank Tolbert and Jerome Tolbert; five sisters, Mary McLean, Mattie Oxner, Exie Gragg, Helen Andrews and Carrie Andrews; and a son-in-law, Reece McLean.

Services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home in Lenoir, officiated by the Rev. Bill Dyson and the Rev. Jack Lewis. Burial followed in the Tolbert Family Cemetery in Caldwell County.
