Erval was wounded when a cartridge exploded in his hand on 21 July 1909 at 6225 Peery Ave. in Kansas City, Jackson Co., MO.²⁷⁶²³ He registered for the WWI draft on 4 June 1917^27624,27625 He lived with his parents in Lees Summit, Jackson Co., MO on 21 January 1920. He appeared on the in-bound passenger list of the SS President Cleveland on 6 March 1953, arriving from Yokohama, Japan.²⁷⁶²⁶ Erval died in Pinellas Co., FL in April 1968.^27627,27628

Dr. Erval R. Coffey Becomes Assistant Surgeon General

Assignment of Dr. Erval R. Coffey an assistant Surgeon General in the Public Health Service, Federal Security Agency, to Thailand under the Foreign Economic assistance of 18M. was this week by Federal Security Administrator Oscar R. Ewing. [sic]

Doctor Coffey, who has been Regional Director since August 194 0 of FSA Region III, with headquarters in Washington will head a division of public health within the ECA's Special Technical and Economic Mission to Thailand.

In announcing the appointment. Mr. Ewing said. "Doctor Coffey's return to fulltime service in his proression [sic] [profession] will bring experience leadership to this mission which is designed to aid in removing the massive barriers of poor health which obstruct productivity by inhabiliting [sic] incentive and initiative, ECA officials, of course, realize that public health is a vital facet of the president's economic development program for the world's undeveloped regions."

Dr. Leonard A Scheele Suregon [sic] General of the Public service commented:

"The Public Health Service in recent years has sent many of its officers to foreign countries where health is a national problem. Doctor Coffey has been a member of
that group. He is an able career, public health physician who has been with the Service 26 year, and and I know that his contribution to better health in Thailand will be a substitantial zoned." [sic]

Dr. Coffey was born in Kansas City School, Missouri, in 1896, and was graduated from the Kansas University Medical School in of He enterel the Public Health of the Commissioned Corps in 1924. [sic]

Doctor Coffey is a fellow of the American Public Health Association and the American Medical Association. He is a member of the Founder Group of the America Board of Preventive Medicine and Public Health.

A resident of Cleveland Village, Arlington, Virginia, Doctor Coffey lives with his wife, the former Catherine Ann Brochdt Chicago, and his youngest daughter, Barbara, M. He has three other children, two daughters and a son.
