209. John C. Coffey was born in 1828 in Jamestown, Russell Co., KY. He lived with his brother Golson Wilson Coffey in Russell Co., KY on 21 September 1850. A spouse was not enumerated with John.
He died circa 1880, probably in Sedgwick Co., KS. In 1885 John was a justice of the peace in Cheney, Morton Twp., Sedgwick Co., KS⁷³² In 1895 he was either a railroad or real estate agent in Cheney, Sedgwick Co., KS⁷³³

John C. Coffey and Nancy Jane Godby⁷³⁴ were married on 10 June 1850 in Liberty, Casey Co., KY.⁷³⁵ They^⁷³⁵ appeared in the census on 18 August 1860 in Lincoln Co., KY.⁷³⁶ They^⁷³⁶ appeared in the census on 2 July 1870 in Bloomington, McLean Co., IL.⁷³⁷ John and Nancy^⁷³⁷ appeared in the census on 10 June 1880 in Wichita, Sedgwick Co., KS.⁷³⁸ Nancy Jane Godby was born in April 1835 in Kentucky. She appeared in the census on 1 June 1900 in Morton, Sedgwick Co., KS.⁷³⁹ Nancy died in Kingman Co., KS .

887	iv.	William Jefferson Coffey was born on 17 July 1857 in Lincoln Co., KY. William Jefferson Coffey was last seen in the household of his father John C. Coffey in the 1870 U.S. Federal Census for Bloomington, McLean County, Illinois. It is probable that he never moved westward to Kansas with his father as did his brothers Martin Alexander, David Franklin and James W. A William J. Coffey does appear in the 1930 U.S. Federal Census for Baltimore, Maryland, born about 1856 in Kentucky with both parents listed as having been born in Kentucky. This William J. is with his wife Alice M. who was born in Canada. They would have been married around 1876. This date is consistent with the fact that William Jefferson was in the John C. Coffey household in 1870 but not in 1880. Unfortunately they don't show up in census data between the years of 1880 to 1920, at least not under the same names -even with various alternate spellings.
