Born in Amherst on May 30, 1927, she was daughter of the late Emmette L. Sale and Essie Coffey Sale. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, William J. Carter Jr. Mrs. Carter retired from Burlington Industries. Surviving Evelyn are three daughters, Donna Mays, of Buena Vista, Diane Henson and husband, Mike, of Buena Vista, and Debbie Hawkins and husband, Eddie, of Glasgow; two sisters, Helen Lackey, of Madison Heights, and Virginia Lee Sale, of Lynchburg; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2013, at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Home with the Rev. David Bail officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery.
