Born in Oneida January 22, 1921. He was the son of the late Harry and Stella Litton Coffey. He was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Oneida and a charter member of the Oneida Lions Club. Luke was a longtime businessman, merchant, and active member of the community. He owned and operated several businesses in the community including Oak Grove Grocery and Quick Shop Foods as well as real estate interest including the development of the Ponderosa Estates in Oneida. He was known for his work in many advancements for Scott County. He was elected as a member of the Scott County Board of Commissioners for approximately 20 years during which time he served as Scott County Judge Pro-Temp for several years. He had served as chairman of the Scott County Hospital Board and the Scott County Airport Board as well as many other committees. His special interest was in the education of Scott County's children. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Wilma Coffey Stanley. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Rosa Lee Coffey; a daughter, Barbara Strunk and husband, Johnny; a son, Dr. Bruce Coffey and wife, Rose Mary, all of Oneida; four grandsons, John Christopher Strunk of Memphis, Tenn., David Kenton Strunk of Harrogate, Tenn., Brandon Lucas Coffey of Johnson City, Tenn. and David Alexander Coffey of Oneida. He also leaves many other relatives and friends. Funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, February 2, at 8 p.m. in the chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home with Rev. John Shepard and Rev. Philip Kazee officiating. Interment service will be conducted Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m. at Carson Memorial Park with Rev.______ and Rev. Chester Morgan officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 until time of the funeral service at 8 p.m. Jones & Son Funeral Home of Oneida is in charge of the arrangements for Luke Edward Coffey. |
