A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, in Llano Cemetery with Dr. Howard Batson, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Doris' immediate family will receive friends and family Monday, June 28, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Doris was born in Miami, Texas, on Dec. 29, 1924, to W. Cleaveland and Musa Carter Coffee, and moved to Amarillo in 1926. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1943, and the University of Texas in 1947. That same year, she married Bynum Lafayette "B.L." Morgan Jr., working with him to raise their family until he died in 1978. Doris actively supported the schools and organizations in which her children were involved. She also served on multiple community boards, including the Junior League, library, Symphony Guild, Art Force, art museum and day care. Additionally, she was an active member and beloved teacher in the First Baptist Church. Doris cherished the time spent with her family and friends. Her family will remember her as generous, loyal, a trusted friend and an eager travel companion. She was a superb model of how to age with grace, positive attitude and courage. Survivors include two daughters, Lynn Morgan of Issaquah, Wash., and Mary Anne Dyson and husband Ryan of Raleigh; a son, John Bynum Morgan and wife Tricia of Sharpsburg, Ga.; a sister, Margaret "Peggy" Salisbury of San Marino, Calif.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be to Doris and B.L. Morgan Scholarship Fund for the Visual Arts, at the Amarillo College Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 447, Amarillo TX 79105-9973.
