He was born March 30, 1917 in Amherst County, son of the late Henry L. Coffey, Sr. and Sally Campbell Coffey. He was a member of the Buena Vista Presbyterian Church. Mr. Coffey was a long-time member of the American Legion Post #126. He was a retired carpenter and a member of Southwest Virginia Carpenter's Union, Local 319 for over 50 years. He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother, Ruth Fitzgerald, Della Carter and Roy Coffey. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Holmes Coffey; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Debby S. Coffey and Larry and Debbie W. Coffey, all of Buena Vista; two brothers, Henry Coffey, Jr. of Buena Vista and Maurice Coffey of Madison Heights; five sisters, Beulah Edwards of Waynesboro, Georgia Stanley of Williamsport, Penn., Elsie Coffey of Gladstone, Jean Hartless of Fairfield and Bernie Woolridge of Hampton; four grandchildren, Rhonda Ackerman, Andy Coffey, Leslie Coffey and Brandon Coffey; one great-grandchild; and three special friends, Dottie Lynn, Alice Hamilton and Sonya Hickman. Funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, August 11, 1997, at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Rebekah J. Glass officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Hill C emetery. Mrs. Coffey was retired from Peebles Department Store. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence L. Coffey and a sister, Oma H. Tyler. She is survived by a sister, Hazel H. Spitler of Goshen; two sons: Ronald L. Coffey and wife, Debby and Larry L. Coffey and wife, Debbie, of Buena Vista; four grandchildren: Rhonda Ackerman and husband, PJ of Lexington; Leslie Stevens and husband, Matt of Bridgewater; Brandon Coffey and Andy Coffey of Buena Vista; three great grandchildren: Jake, Luke, and Emily Ackerman of Lexington; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, September 1, 2006 at the Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Home, Buena vista. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 2, 2006 at the Bolling, Grose & Lotts Chapel, Buena Vista, with Rev. Robert McMullen officiating.
