She was born December 24, 1908, in Nelson County, Virginia, daughter of John Coffey and Ella Bragg Coffey. She was a longtime resident of Waynesboro and former member of First Presbyterian Church. Rushia enjoyed a long career in retailing which spanned over 80 years. While living in Waynesboro, she worked at Leggetts over 25 years and continued to work full time at Walmart in Hattiesburg until she was 96 years old. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Echol A. Quillen in 1957. Surviving are her son, Dennis E. Quillen of Hattiesburg; and daughter, Carol Q. Higginbotham of Hattiesburg; two grandchildren, Dawn Walters of Bloomington, Indiana and Shay Quillen of San Hose, California; and two great-grandchildren, Owen and Graham Walters of Bloomington, Indiana. A graveside service will be conducted 3 p.m. Thursday, September 6, 2007, at Riverview Cemetery by Dr. Glen A. Holman. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 4901 Hardy Street, Hattiesburg, MS 39402. There will be no formal visitation. McDow Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
