6600. John C. Coffey was born on 14 July 1861 in Tennessee. He lived with his mother and step-father in Grainger Co., TN on 12 June 1880. John died in Grainger Co., TN on 27 August 1931. His burial place is unknown to me.²¹⁸³¹

J. C. Coffey

Brother J. C. Coffey was born July 14, 1861. He professed faith in Christ at an early age, joined the church at Cedar Springs later he moved his membership to Dry Valley where he lived a faithful life until death. He was married to Martha Coffey about the year 1884. To the union was born nine children, four girls and five boys, three of them preceded him. Brother J. C. Coffey left August 27, 1931. He leaves a wife and seven [sic] children to mourn the loss, but their loss is his eternal gain. He is gone to heaven to rest (?) forever more. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. G. M. Young. John C. Coffey and Martha J. White²¹⁸³² were married on 30 May 1883 in Grainger Co., TN.²¹⁸³³ They^²¹⁸³³ appeared in the census on 2 June 1900 in Grainger Co., TN.²¹⁸³⁴ They^²¹⁸³⁴ appeared in the census on 3 May 1910 in Grainger Co., TN.²¹⁸³⁵ John and Martha^²¹⁸³⁵ appeared in the census on 3 June 1920 in Grainger Co., TN.²¹⁸³⁶ They^²¹⁸³⁶ appeared in the census on 26 April 1930 at Dry Valley Road in Thorn Hill, Grainger Co., TN.²¹⁸³⁷ Martha J. White was born in 1862 in Tennessee. She appeared in the census on 6 May 1940 in Grainger Co., TN.²¹⁸³⁸

Some genealogies report her maiden name as Wyatt. However, there are no Wyatt families in the Grainger county census record for 1880. There was a Peter White family residing next door to Orena (spelled Lorena in 1880) and her new White family. The Peter White family included a daughter named Martha J., age 18.

Looking back at the 1870 census we find the Peter White family with a son named John included in the household.

It appears then that Orena married John White, a son of Peter, and that her son, John C. Coffey married John's sister, Martha White.

John C. Coffey and Martha J. White had the following children:

13423	i.	Cornelia Evaline Coffey was born on 27 April 1885 in Tennessee. She lived with her parents in Grainger Co., TN on 2 June 1900. She lived with her parents in Grainger Co., TN on 3 May 1910. She was enumerated as Darcella, age 24. Cornelia lived with her parents in Grainger Co., TN on 26 April 1930. She was enumerated as Cora C., age 44 in this census. She lived with her mother in Grainger Co., TN on 6 May 1940. Cornelia died in Grainger Co., TN on 22 August 1946 of tuberculosis and was buried at Epperson Cemetery in Thorn Hill, Grainger Co., TN on 24 August 1946 .^{21839,21840,21841}

She was enumerated as Dora, age 18 in this census. Cora lived with her parents in Grainger Co., TN on 3 January 1920. Her age given at this census was 26. She lived with her parents in Grainger Co., TN on 26 April 1930. She was enumerated as Cora J., age 31 in this census.

Orena lived with her parents in Grainger Co., TN on 3 January 1920. She was enumerated as Rena in this census, age 21. She lived with her parents in Grainger Co., TN on 26 April 1930. This is apparently the daughter enumerated as Lena, age 30, in the 1930 census.
