Delphine Ave., died at 10:10 p.m. Saturday at the Waynesboro Community Hospital after a long illness. Mr. Coffey was a member of the Sherando Christian Church and was employed for 20 years at the local DuPont plant before his retirement in 1952. Born April 7, 1887, in Love, Mr. Coffey was a son of the late David and Lucy Demastus Coffey [David Garland and Alice Peter Demasters Coffey]. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Elva Dedrick Craig Coffey; following children by a former marriage, seven sons, Elmer H. Coffey and Houston W. Coffey, both of Newport News; Raymond E. Coffey, Hallie T. Coffey and James E. Coffey, all of Waynesboro; Wilmer H. Coffey , Washington, D. C., and Carl D. Coffey, Orlando, Fla.; two daughters, Mrs. Pauline F. Snider, Hampton, and Mrs. Helen L. Mowry, Newport News; one brother, Ellis Coffey, Staunton; one step-daughter, Mrs. Vera Bell, Waynesboro; two step-sons, James T. Craig, Washington, D. C., and William Franklin Craig, Atlanta, Ga.; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Body will remain at the Etter Funeral Home. Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of the Etter Funeral Home by Mr. Harvey Powell with interment in Riverview Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Reuben Childress, Arthur Campbell, Charles Mahler, Ray Coffey, Buddy Coffey, and Bernard Layne. Honorary bearers will be Albert Lam, David Williams, Hallie Lambert, George Bingham, Lucien Lynn, Dr. S. G. Saunders and Dr. J. T. O'Hanlon. However, his mother indicated that she was the mother of 8 children, and that all were living at the time of the census, but only 7 children were enumerated.
