Funeral services will be 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons White Chapel Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in High Ridge Cemetery, Stanberry, MO. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ethel Coffey Memorial Fund, 1444 E. 22nd Ave., North Kansas City, MO, 64116. These funds will be used towards a memorial tree planted in her name at the Children's Fountain at the intersection of 9 Hwy. and N. Oak Trafficway. Mrs. Coffey was born July 12, 1895, on a farm in Worth County, MO. Ethel moved to Kansas City in the 1930's, where she became a seamstress in the garment district. She lived in Los Angeles from 1941 through 1944, where she also worked as a seamstress during World War II. During the late 40's, Ethel went into business opening a general merchandise store in Oregon, MO. Over the next 25 years, she had stores in Blockton, IA, Pattonsburg, MO, and again in Oregon, MO. Her stores grew with each move to include a beauty shop and florist shop with general merchandise. Ethel retired to North Kansas City in 1983, where she loved to garden. For the past 12 years. she did volunteer work at the Nearly New Shop. She attended First Baptist Church of North Kansas City. Survivors include her daughter, Hazel Lechner, North Kansas City, MO; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives. Beryl P.
