ROCKFISH VALLEY-Charles Custer Coffey, 82, a retired insurance solicitor, died Wednesday at 8 p.m. at his home in Lynchburg after an illness of one week. He was a member of Memorial Christian Church, Lynchburg, where he was an honorary deacon.
Mr. Coffey was born on Tye River in Nelson County where he lived until young manhood.

He was the son of the late Andrew J. Coffey and Mrs. Rebecca Campbell Coffey and a brother of the late Rev. H. D. Coffey, who spent about 60 years in the ministry. The Coffey family moved from Tye River to the Beech Grove community here where they lived a number of years before moving to Lynchburg.

Mr. Coffey is survived by his wife, Mrs. May Thornburg Coffey, of Lynchburg; a foster son, Charles Thornburg of Lynchburg; two sisters, Mrs. Laura Coffey Meridith and Mrs. Cleveland G. Campbell, both of Lynchburg; and a large number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, in the Memorial Christian Church. Interment was in Spring Hill Cemetery, Lynchburg.

Charles Custer Coffey and Ora Mae Thornburg were married on 29 December 1908 in Pulaski Co., VA.13951 Ora Mae Thornburg was born about 1889 in Virginia.
