LYNDHURST - Mrs. Ninnie Virginia Coffey, 84, of Route 1, died Thursday afternoon in Waynesboro Community Hospital.

She was born at Love, Dec. 19, 1898, the daughter of the late Cyrus and Elizabeth Coffey.

She was a member of the Mountain Top Christian Church at Love.

Surviving are her husband, John Massie Coffey; two sons, Malcolm Thomas Coffey of Waynesboro and Winfred Harry Coffey of Lyndhurst; one sister, Mrs. Helen C. Hewitt of Lyndhurst; one grandson, six great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Wilhelm and Mrs. Alda Henderson and three brothers, Harry Coffey, Robert Coffey and Fred Coffey.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the Mountain Top Christian Church, conducted by the Rev. Charles Ramsey, the Rev. Ray Coffey and the Rev. Stanley Shirk. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Mathis Henderson, Earl Henderson, Landon Ray Coffey, Steve Barrett, Sonny Stein and Melvin Hewitt.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Coffey, Billy Coffey, Luther Wilhelm, Houston Coffey, Doug Henderson, Claborne Henderson, Bobby Henderson, Lynn Barrett, Teresea Coffey and Elmer Hewitt.

The family will receive friends at the residence of her son, Melvin T. Coffey, 477 Arch Ave., and from 7 to 8 tonight at the Waynesboro Chapel of Etter Funeral Home.

Ninnie Virginia "Nan" Coffey and John Massie "Johnnie" Coffey were married after 5 September 1917 in Lyndhurst, Augusta Co., VA. They lived with his parents in Massies Mill, Nelson Co, VA on 26 January 1920. They appeared in the census on 7 April 1930 in Nelson Co., VA.13677 Nan and Johnnie13677 appeared in the census on 26 April 1940 in South River Dist., Augusta Co., VA.13678 John Massie "Johnnie" Coffey, son of Henry Thomas Coffey and Nancy Jane Campbell, was born on 10 March 1896 in Nash, Nelson Co., VA. He registered for the WWI draft on 5 September 1917 in Nelson Co., VA.13674 Johnnie died on 21 December 1987 at the age of 91 in Waynesboro, Independent City, VA and was buried at Mountain Top Christian Church Cemetery in Love, Nelson Co, VA.13675,13676

WAYNESBORO - John M. Coffey, 95, died Monday afternoon (Dec. 21, 1987) at the residence of his son, Malcolm T. Coffey of 477 Arch Ave. He was born in Nelson County March 10, 1895, a son of Thomas and Nannie (Campbell) Coffey. He was a member of Mountain Top Christian Church and a retired farmer. His wife, Ninnie V. Coffey, died Nov. 3, 1983.

Survivors include two sons, Malcolm T. of Waynesboro and Winfred H. Coffey of Lyndhurst; a brother, Forest A. Coffey of Love; seven grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A service will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at Mountain Top Christian Church by the Revs. Charles Ramsey, Stan Shirk and Ray Coffey, with burial in the church cemetery . Pallbearers will be Stephen Barrette, Ralph and Elwood Hewitt, Earl Henderson, Joe Harman and Sonny Stein.

The family will receive friends at the residence of his son, Malcolm Coffey, and from 7-8 tonight in the Waynesboro chapel of Etter Funeral Home. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Waynesboro First Aid Crew.
