H. L. Coffey LYNDHURST - Hugh L. Coffey, 77, of P.O. Box 39, Lyndhurst, was dead, on arrival at 9:11 p.m., Tuesday in Waynesboro Community Hospital.

He was born in Love, Nelson County, Dec. 13, 1903, a son of the late Joseph and Tressa Coffey. He was a supervisor for Waynesboro Nurseries and had retired after 45 years of service. He was a member of the Mountain Top Christian Church at Love. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Gladys Snead Coffey; one daughter, Mrs. Everett R. (Nancy) Cease of Staunton; one brother, Saylor Coffey of Lyndhurst; two sisters, Mrs. Hattie C. DeMastus and Mrs. Hughston (Nellie) Coffey, both of Lyndhurst; two grand-children, two great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held at 2. p.m. Friday in the chapel of the Etter Funeral Home, Waynesboro, conducted by the Rev. T.R. Coffey, the Rev. Charles C. Ramsey and the Rev. E. Elwood Campbell. Burial will be in Augusta Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Edward Wilhelm, Homer Fitzgerald, Martin Wheeler, R.N. "Joe" Harman, Jesse Brydge and Lewis Floyd. Honorary pallbearers will br Ralph Hewitt, Ray Coffey, George Cromer, Ronnie Shirley, Aubrey Byrd, Steve Coffey, Leslie Bridge, C.J. Miller, Guy Fix and members of the Sherando-Lyndhurst Ruritan Club.

The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 this evening and other times at the home. The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Waynesboro First Aid crew.

Gladys Snead Coffey, 81, of Route 1, Box 161 B, died Friday evening (Aug. 26, 1994) in the District Home, Waynesboro.

She was born July 12, 1913, in Augusta County, a daughter of Andrew Lee and Nancy Florence Coffey Snead.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh L. Coffey, on Sept. 15, 1981; one brother, William Toy Snead; two sisters, Elsie Flick and Maggie Coffey.

She was a member of Mountain Top Christian Church and was retired from Western State Hospital.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Everett (Nancy) Cease of Stuarts Draft, with whom she made her home; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Waynesboro chapel of Etter Funeral Home by the Revs. Ray Coffey and James Chappell with burial in Augusta Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be Harley Tomey, Jimmy Thurston, Ronnie Shirley, Melvin Glass, Hershel Bridge and Billy Coffey.

Honorary pallbearers will be nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to the Stuarts Draft Rescue Squad.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home and other times at the residence, 137 Sherwood Drive, Stuarts Draft.
