He had been in ailing health since suffering a stroke about two years ago. Mr. Coffey was 68 years of age. He first married to Ella Aaron, and to this union twelve children were born. His wife and four children preceded him to the grave, and he was later married to Mrs. Emma George Braynt [sic], who survives. He leaves the following children - Mrs. Edith Mohr of Shelbyville, Ind., Mrs. Ada Gentry of Russell Springs, Miss Redith Coffey of Madison, Ind., Buel Coffey, James Coffey and Birthel Coffey, all of Shelbyville, Ind., Walton Coffey of New Albany, Ind., and William Coffey of Russell Springs. He also is survived by a sister, Mrs. Luther Coffey, Webbs Cross Roads, and by 29 grandchildren and four great grandchildren, also by three step-sons, Edwin Bryant, Cincinnati, Adrian Bryant, Paducah, Ky., and Alvin Bryant, Russell Springs. Funeral services were held Saturday morning, August 17, in the Coffey's Hill Church. The ministers were Bro. Clarence Smith and Bro. L. R. Hart, and burial was in the Clear Spring Cemetery. Rippetoe Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. James Elvert (Cobbert?) Coffey and Ella Ray Aaron were married circa 1916. Ella Ray Aaron, daughter of William Thomas Aaron, was born on 14 June 1899 in Kentucky. Ella died in Kentucky on 14 October 1941 and was buried at Clear Springs Cemetery in Russell Springs, Russell Co., KY in October 1941 .11223 Mrs. Ella Coffey Succumbs at Clear Springs Mrs. Ella Coffey, about 40 years old, wife of Elvert Coffey, died at her home near Clear Springs church, Wednesday, October 15, a victim of tuberculosis Mrs. Coffey was a splendid Christian lady, and had been in failing health for several months. Funeral services conducted by Rev. Joe Wooldridge, where held at Clear Spring[s] church last Thursday. Burial was in the Clear Springs cemetery. She is survived by her husband and several children, who have the sympathy of the entire community in the great loss they have sustained. James Elvert (Cobbert?)
