Dr. James Coffey

Salisbury - Dr. James C. Coffey, 74, of 8 Pinetree Road died Thursday at his home.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. today at City Memorial Park in Salisbury.

Dr. Coffey was a graduate of Wake Forest University and received his medical degree from the University of Atlanta. He moved to Salisbury in 1940, opened his first family medicine practice in his home and them moved to the Wallace Building. Coffey was a U.S. Army veteran who attained the rank of major and resumed his medical practice in Salisbury in 1946.

Coffey was a former president of staff and Rowan Memorial Hospital, former president of the Rowan Medical Society, and a fellow in the American Academy of Physicians. He was a member of the state and national medical societies. He was a former president of the Lions Club, former member of the Elks Club and a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors are wife, Mrs. Mildred Deweese Coffey; sons, Jr. James C., Coffey Jr. of Chapel Hill, Robert Dixon Coffey of Kannapolis and Dr. Ralph A. Coffey of Davidson; mother, Mrs. C. M. Coffey of Greensboro; brother, Dr. Robert Tuttle Coffey of Lake Norman; five grandchildren.

Summersett Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dr. James Cecil Coffey and Mildred Elizabeth DeWeese were married in May 1936. They appeared in the census on 10 April 1940 in Cleveland Co., NC.32492 Mildred Elizabeth DeWeese, daughter of Robert Lee DeWeese and Sallie J. Miller, was born on 23 October 1913 in Rowan Co., NC. She lived with her parents in Salisbury, Rowan Co., NC on 13 January 1920. She lived with her parents in Salisbury, Rowan Co., NC on 15 April 1930. Salisbury, Rowan Co., NC in August 2001. Mildred died in Salisbury, Rowan Co., NC on 10 August 2001 and was buried at Memorial Park Cemetery in Salisbury, Rowan Co., NC in August 2001 .32493,32494

Mildred DeWeese Coffey, 87, 8 Pine Tree Road, Salisbury, died Friday (Aug. 10, 2001) at her home. 

Born Oct. 23, 1913, in Salisbury, Mrs. Coffey was a daughter of the late Robert L. and Sallie Miller DeWeese. 

Educated in the Salisbury Schools, she graduated from Boyden High School and Mars Hill Junior College and received a BA degree from Meredith College, Raleigh. 

She taught the fifth and sixth grades in Spencer and East Spencer before retiring in 1978 after 32 years teaching. Mrs. Coffey was a member of First Baptist Church, Country Club of Salisbury and Amicitia Book Club, of which she was also charter president. 

Her husband, Dr. James C. Coffey, died on June 18, 1987. 

Survivors include sons Dr. James C. Coffey Jr., Shallotte, Robert Dixon Coffey, Kannapolis, Dr. Ralph A. Coffey, Asheville; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. 

Services: Graveside, 2 p.m. Sunday, City Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Tom Roberts. Summersett Funeral Home is in charge. 

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the home.

Dr. Edward R. Spicer of Salisbury was convicted Tuesday of writing prescriptiuons for such drugs as Percodan and Quaalude without a legitimate medical reason. The two pharmacists, Billy T. Coward of Landis and Robert D. Coffey of Kannapolis, were convicted last month of conspiring with another psychiatrist to distribute drugs illegally.

KANNAPOLIS - Robert Dixon "Bob" Coffey, born September 9, 1941, died Sunday October 15, 2006 in Kannapolis, at the age of 65 due to heart failure. Please join us in celebrating his life at Whitley's Funeral Home in Kannapolis on Thursday, October 19, 2006.

Visitation will take place from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. and a short service will follow at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Coffey graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in pharmacology. He practiced pharmacy and made his home in Kannapolis, NC. He enjoyed being a father to his only daughter, Lynnette Paige Coffey Bock. His quick wit and "dry" sense of humor will be dearly missed.

Mr. Coffey was the son of the late Dr. Cecil Coffey and the late Mildred D. Coffey of Salisbury. He is survived by his daughter; L. Paige Coffey Bock of Lake Norman; Grandchildren; Macey and Parker, Brothers; Ralph A. Coffey of Asheville and James C. Coffey of Shallotte.

Burial will be at City Memorial Park in Salisbury. The family will be at the home of his daughter, Paige Coffey Bock, at 17104 Grenache Ct., Cornelius.
