Coffey Died Last Friday Well known resident of Stanberry and Alanthus succumbed last Friday. Funeral here Sunday. Geo. L. Coffey, for many years a well-known resident of Stanberry and Alanthus, died last Friday at St. Joseph. He had been in ill health for several years. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Phillips Mortuary, conducted by the Rev. Lawrence H. Cox, pastor of the Stanberry Baptist church. Interment was in the High Ridge Cemetery. Mr. Coffey, the son of Lawson and Eliza Ann Coffey, was born on May 26, 1863, at Alanthus Grove, MO. He was 82 years old at the time of his death. He was a member of one of the pioneer families of Gentry County and, with the exception of a few years spent in Oklahoma, the greater part of his life was spent in the county. In early life, Mr. Coffey united with the Christian church and remained loyal in that faith throughout his life. For many years he was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and he had many friends and acquaintances in this and the Alanthus vicinity. He was married on Aug. 12, 1894, to Miss Gertrude Dorr. They were the parents of one son, Earl, who lives in Oklahoma. He was married on Aug. 12, 1907, to Miss Elsie Randleman. They are the parents of two sons, William Lawson and Otto Marion. Both are in service in the Navy, the former being stationed at a California camp and the latter serving in the South Pacific. In addition to the three sons, Mr. Coffey is survived by one brother, Lawson L. Coffey, of Los Angeles, and by several nephews and nieces.
