Melvin was raised in the Canton community where he graduated from high school. He furthered his education at Haskell College in Lawrence KS where he earned a degree in education. He taught school and was an educator. Later in life, he worked as a truck driver. He married Dena Delores Coffey. He was preceded in death by his wife Dena on April 11, 1997. He made his home in Oklahoma City to be near his family. He is survived by daughters Fawn and Davida Tsatigh, both of Oklahoma City; stepdaughter Carrie Sue Hamilton of Oklahoma City; stepsons Alvin LaForce Hamilton and Francis Keith Hamilton, both of El Reno OK; ten grandchildren, several step-grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; sisters Olivia Vann and Loretta Eakins, both of Watts OK; and brother Andy Tsatigh of Florida.
