He lived with his parents in Lone Grove, Carter Co., OK on 8 April 1910. Walter was injured in a fight on 13 April 1922 in Newport, Carter Co., OK.23974

"Lone Grove Constable Charged With Disturbing Peace at Newport Dance Thursday Evening

"Walter Coffey, constable of Lone Grove, will face charges of disturbing the peace when he is released from the Hardy Sanitarium where is is recovering from injuries received in an alleged fracas at Newport Thursday night, according to County Attorney J. E. Bristow, who filed the charges Saturday.

"In addition to this, Coffey is liable to lose his job, Bristow said Saturday morning. Although Coffey is an elected officer, Mr. Bristow says and he lays himself liable to discharge when he violates the authority placed in him, as it is charged Coffey did. Just what procedure would be followed he did not state.

"According to Coffey's story when he was brought to the hospital, he had gone to the dance and during the evening was attacked by Elmer Clowdus and his brother and beaten over the head with a revolver. Coffey said it was result of an old grude. [sic] Officers who went to the scene said that they were informed Coffey and the other men had been drinking." Walter died on 17 December 1941 at the age of 47 in Oklahoma and was buried at Lone Grove Cemetery in Carter Co., OK.23975,23976

Walter Jerome Coffey and E. Ruth Harding were married on 18 April 1918 in Ardmore, Carter Co., OK.23977 E. Ruth Harding, daughter of John Donley Harding and Martha Ann Gose, was born in 1892 in Texas. E. died in Texas on 30 January 1920 and was buried at Oaklawn Cemetery in Decatur, Wise Co., TX in February 1920 .23978,23979

Coffey - Mrs. Walter J. Coffey, 24, of Decatur, died Friday night at the home of relatives, 1315 Cannon Avenue. The body was sent to Decatur for burial Saturday by Undertaker Robertson.
