He was born Sept. 22, 1924, in Roanoke, Va., to William Benjamin Johnson Sr. and Mae Lou Wainwright Johnson. Mr. Johnson retired from the Olivette Corp. in 1975 and from the K&W Cafeteria home office in 1986. He was president and CEO of U.S.F.F.S. until 1995. He served in the Army Air Forces in the South Pacific during World War II, earning eight battle stars. Awards received were the Purple Heart, Air Medals and the Good Conduct Award. He was the president of the Sertoma Club in Roanoke, Va. Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Phyllis Coffey Johnson of the home; two daughters, Kathie J. Connor of Atlanta, Karen J. Johnson of Charleston, S.C.; and a son, Richard M. Johnson Jr. of Mebane; a grandson, David Connor of Atlanta; a granddaughter, Carly Johnson of Charleston, S.C; and a sister, Margaret J. Wilson of Roanoke, Va. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Chapel by Dr. Ray Hamilton and Dr. Carl Minor. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Friday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O.
