Mr. Paul Edward Lawson, Sr., 70, Duffield, VA passed away at his residence after a short illness.

Mr. Lawson was born in Wise County, VA on January 26, 1941, son of the late William Dedrick and Finnie McNutt Lawson.

His sisters, Helen Trimpin and Loretta Bowman, and brother, Junior Lawson preceded him in death.

Surviving is his wife, Hilda Woods Lawson, Duffield, VA, daughters, Linda Lawson and fiance, Dale Turnmire, Granite Falls, NC, Paula Perry and husband, Roger, Lenoir, NC, Nancy Lawson and fiancé, Rick Milam, Lenoir, NC, Paulette Long and husband, George, Lenoir, NC, Heather Ward and husband, Ricky, Lenoir, NC, and Hope Pipes, Lenoir, NC; sons, Paul Lawson, Jr. and fiancee, Jerrie Masters, Duffield, VA, Allen Lawson and wife, Marie, Hudson, NC, and Daniel Hicks, Granite Falls, NC; 27 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; sisters, Carolyn Patterson, FL and Florence Pannell and husband, June, Appalachia, VA; brothers, Ralph Lawson, Gas City, IN, Danny Lawson, Appalachia, VA; two special nephews, David Trimpin, Appalachia, VA and Eugene White, Church Hill, TN; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Lonnie Townsend officiating. The eulogy will be given by Art Mullins.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at the American Legion Cemetery, Big Stone Gap, VA. Jonathan Gragg Doc Hensley, William Lawson, Dedrick Long, Paul Curtis Sisk, and Eugene White will serve as pallbearers. Michael Lawson, Clyde Newsome, John Newton, and Junior Watson will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday to go in procession to the graveside service.
