Death of Jesse Coffey.

McKinney, Tex., April 5.-Jesse Coffey, one of the most widely known citizens of Collin County, died suddenly at his home near Anna this morning. He came to Texas in 1852 and settled on the farm where he has lived continuously since, and where he died. He has been Justice of Precinct No. 3 nearly all the time for about forty years. He was 85 years of age.

Jesse P. Coffey and wife came to Collin County from Kentucky in 1855 in a caravan of eight wagons and settled near Anna. He was a county commissioner of Collin County from 1860 to 1864 and justice of the peace at Melissa for forth years. He and his wife are both buried in Old Highland cemetery.

Jesse Perry Coffey and Tabitha Slaughter were married circa 1843 in Kentucky. They appeared in the census on 3 August 1850 in Casey Co., KY.⁴⁵⁴⁷ They^⁴⁵⁴⁷ appeared in the census on 25 July 1860 in Collin Co., TX.⁴⁵⁴⁸ Jesse and Tabitha^⁴⁵⁴⁸ appeared in the census on 29 July 1870 in Highland, Collin Co., TX.⁴⁵⁴⁹ They^⁴⁵⁴⁹ appeared in the census on 21 June 1880 in Collin Co., TX.⁴⁵⁵⁰ They^⁴⁵⁵⁰ appeared in the census on 7 June 1900 in Collin Co., TX.⁴⁵⁵¹ Tabitha Slaughter⁴⁵⁵² was born on 14 February 1822 in Kentucky. Tabitha died on 26 August 1909 at the age of 87 in Collin Co., TX and was buried at Highland Cemetery in Melissa, Collin Co., TX.⁴⁵⁵³

Coffey who enlisted on Aug. 12, 1862 in Co. B, 39th IA Inf. He was a native of Kentucky; taken prisoner Dec. 30, 1862 at Shady Grove, TN; paroled; discharged at close of war.

Coffey of Beaumont, Miss C. M. Coffey of Anna, Mat Coffey of Farmington, J. Perry Coffey of McKinney and Will Coffey of Sulphur Springs. Funeral services were conducted at Anna on Wednesday by the Rev. A. L. Clinkenbeard of Dallas.
