Three letters to Vanita Ann Coffey Bell Johnston from (Aunt) Lillian Coffey:

Shawnee, OK Dec. 9-1968

Dear Vanita

??? a very short note today, Lucile asked me to write you for her. she has been very ill most of the time since the serious operation last January when the breast was removed. ?? she she recovered from that. An infection of the gall-bladder occurred though the operation was avoided But those infection appeared in redness She has not re-gained her strength since all of this ??? has spent much time in bed.

Last week she took a plane in Lubbock for Dallas to see Ray receive honors - the occasion being annual meeting of the Southern Seedmen'sAssociation. She flew down on Monday and returned on Wednesday to go back to bed. Said she slept two days. Ray received the plaque as the most valuable Seedman, and was also elected 1st Vice-President of the organization She said all the other men had their wives, and she knew how much Ray wanted her. Said she stayed in hotel room except long enough for luncheon & banquet.

Prissy stays with her day & night, doing all the work. Jess (her husband comes up on week-ends-as does Linda & her husband. They don't allow Lucile do a thing. She goes down-stairs for meals, except for breakfast - has a limited diet - no fried food - plenty of fruit and vegetables cooked without any grease. We do not know how long this will be.

We would love to hear about all your big family. What did Walter do about the lease?

Do you see Nora often? She writes seldom. I enjoy my great-grandchildren - all six of them.

Love to all
Aunt Lillian

My Dear Vanita:

yes, honey, I did have your letters, and Thomas had already asked me to write you & Nannie to come to see us and visit them. But I have been in bed for more than a week. Am up now. The boys and their families will be home for Thanksgiving, but any other time you & Nannie will be so welcome to come to see us.

Prissy's husband is in the service, located at El Paso just now. She & her Daddy keep the house just as her precious mother did.

I had a siege of virus, cold & arthritis. Can hardly see what I'm writing.

So we will expect you & Nannie soon.

Love to all
Aunt Lillian

Dear Vanita,

Congratulations that you are to have a new grandson (in law), and best wishes to the young lady.

As you know, I am unable to get around, so I am asking you to find a little gift Will you have time? Enclosed-a small check-$3.50. Maybe that will buy a candy dish for the Coffey-Coffee table, or a cake plate- or towels - Whatever you chose - put in a card from "Aunt Lillian to Nancy "????" I will surely appreciate this errand.

Prissy called me Tuesday. Ray was in the hospital, but home now. Still in P.J.'s she said. Had a kidney infection and high blood pressure. Hope you and all yours are fine. How is Nora? She seemed so depressed when she writes.

I am in bed with high blood pressure & a sinus infection.

Many thanks.
Love -
Aunt Lillian
