He was born June 23, 1927, in Caldwell County and was a son of the late Wilburn Carey Coffey Sr. and Jennie Woods Coffey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Coline Coffey, Lucy Hartley and Betty Coffey. Mr. Coffey was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran, and a retired employee of Broyhill Industries in Lenoir. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a good friend to everyone. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Louise Lingafelt Coffey of the home; daughters, Diane McCurry and her husband, Glenn of Morganton and Sandra Coffey and her husband, Tim Bozeman of Hildebran; a granddaughter, Sara McCurry Jordan and her husband, William of Glen Alpine; a brother, Edgar Coffey of Lenoir; sisters, Mary Green and Shirley Kincaid, both of Lenoir and Virginia Moses of Morganton. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday at Burke Memorial Park with the Rev. Gary Gibbens officiating. The family will be at the residence of Diane and Glenn McCurry, 4872 U.S. 64, Morganton. Memorial contributions may be made to Rain Hill Wesleyan Church, 5763 Rain Hill Church Road, Morganton, N.C. 28655. Sossoman Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
