He was born Aug. 23, 1920, in Caldwell County to the late Wilburn Carey and Jennie Woods Coffey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Wilburn C. Coffey Jr., and five sisters, Virginia Moses, Coline Coffey, Betty Coffey, Lucy Hartley and an infant sister. Mr. Coffey was a machine operator in the furniture industry and was of the Baptist faith. He was also a United States Army veteran serving in WWII. Survivors include two sisters, Mary Greene and husband Tommy, and Shirley Kincaid, all of Lenoir; one sister-in-law, Louise L. Coffey of Morganton; and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Glass Cemetery in Mulberry conducted by the Rev. Bryan Davis.
