Price A resident of Belle Plaine, Sumner Co., Kansas, well and favorably known all over this part of the state, died at Pauls Valley, Okla., January 5, 1919, cause of death, apoplexy, death following the attack. He was a typical Kentuckian with integrity, honor, manhood wisdom, industry and financial ability equaled by few of his day. He was born in Russell Co., Ky., Dec. 28, 1848; reached the age of three score and ten and only seven days on borrowed time. He was married to Miss George Ann Coffey Dec. 10, 1868. From this union there are now living seven children, three boys and four girls; R.B. Price and Sam R. Price, Belle Plaine; Charles Price, Oklahoma City; Mrs. J.D. Rucker, Cleburne, Texas, Mary P. Price, New York City, Mrs. Will G. Price, Wichita, Kans., and Mrs. John M. Utterback, of Newton, Kans. Mr. and Mrs. Price emigrated to Kansas in an early day, taking a claim near Burden, Kans.; after a few years of hardships, returned to the land of the blue grass. After a few years there they became dissatisfied and came back to Kansas, buying a farm near Belle Plaine in the year 1893. By frugality, perseverance and incessant toil, by himself and family farming and raising stock, added to the first farm, six or seven more, some of the best land in Oklahoma and Kansas. The noble wife, mother and helpmate, departed this life Dec. 18, 1901. Mr. Price was a remarkable man in many ways, was rugged and enjoyed good health all his life. No man could stay in his company without learning something worth while and his advice was invariably correct. One of his many good qualities was attending to his own business. He spent considerable of his time near Pauls Valley, Okla., where he owned several fine farms. He was a member of the Christian church. By his death his family, the community and his many friends can only grieve for a noble father, a grand citizen who has gone never to return. Up to the time of the attack he had been enjoying his usual good health, having spent some time very pleasantly with his daughter, Mrs. J.D. Rucker, of Cleburne, Texas, and had intended making this business trip to Pauls Valley and then return to the sunny south for the remained of the winter. When Mr. Price was stricken the children were notified and Dr. and Mrs. Rucker, Mrs. Will G. Price and Charles Price hurriedly went to his bedside, only to learn that in spite of the best medical skill nothing could be done to save him, and he passed away as above mentioned. He had expressed a desire to reach 70 years of age and then pass away quickly, without suffering. He had that wish gratified. The body was brought to this city for burial, arriving Thursday morning. The services were held from the Church of Christ and were conducted by Elder D.T. Broadus, of Wichita. Elder Broadus stated he had presided at the funeral services of three other members of the family; Mrs. Price seventeen years ago, and two sons, James Stewart and William P., since. All the living children were present, Mrs. W.G. Price and Mrs. Utterback each being accompanied by their husband; Dr. Rucker came later, Mr. and Mrs. Utterback were in New York visiting Miss Mary when the sad news reached them and only by catching fast trains were they enabled to reach here in time for the funeral services. There were a large number of the old friends of Mr. Price and family present as the last sad rites were performed. Burial took place in the beautiful Belle Plaine cemetery.
