Payne of Decatur, TX, the remarried widow of Stanton P. Coffey, wrote a letter to the editor of The Adair County News, Columbia, KY, describing her sojourn from Russell Co. in 1901 to visit her sick daughter, "Mrs. S. R. Price, at Belle Plain, Kansas...," and who eventually died. Mrs. Payne remained there with her son-in-law and grandchildren for two years then left to visit a daughter, "Mrs. J. A. Brownlee, at Decatur, Texas, and Mrs. H. T. Harvey, Hillsboro, and a son W. G. Coffey, San Antonio, where I spent last winter." Mrs. Payne then announced plans to return to her "'Old Kentucky Home' at Denmark, Russell county, sometime in September." Mary died in Decatur, Wise Co., TX on 20 May 1906 and was buried at Oaklawn Cemetery in Decatur, Wise Co., TX in May 1906 .3045,3046 "Mrs. Mary C. Payne, a sister of Mrs. F. R. Winfrey, this place, died in Decatur, Texas, on May the 20th. She was 74 years old, and was born and reared in Cumberland county. She was visiting her daughter, Mrs. Brownlee, when the end came, which was sudden and a great shock to her children and friends. Before she left for Texas she made her home with her son, Mr. C. S. Coffey, at Denmark, Russell county. The deceased was twice married. Her first husband was Stanton Coffey and her last husband Reuben Payne, of Russell county." Stanton P. (Preston or Presley?)
