Fred Porter Dies at Casey Hospital

Fred S. Porter, 70, died at the Casey Hospital on December 21. He had been ill for over three years.

For around 30 years he worked in Liberty coming from Cincinnati as a machinist. He owned and operated a service station with Virgil Smith for several years and then sold cars and tractors until he became too ill to manage the business.

He was one of the county's most respected business men.

He was born on September 22, 1904, the son of Nathanial and Mary Frances Watson Porter. He was married to Marie Coffey, who survives and is with the Casey County High School.

He was the father of Shirley Porter Williamson, Wickliffe; and Mary Lee Darlington, Alexandria, Ky. [T]here are seven grandchildren.

He was a brother of Gather, Ray, and Ezra Porter, Liberty; Henry and Hershel Porter, Cincinnati; and Mrs. Esther Sweeney, Detroit.

Services were held in the Liberty United Methodist Church on December 23 with Rev. James G. Powell officiating. Burial was at Middleburg.

Bearers were Philip Dillon, John Shugars, John Bearl Murphy, Johnny Beard Jr., Donald and glen Wilson.

Bartle Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
