He lived with his cousin George Washington Coffey in Yadkin Valley, Caldwell Co., NC on 15 June 1880. Red Eye lived with his son William Carlton Coffey in Globe Twp., Caldwell Co., NC on 15 April 1940. Jesse died of uremia on 31 January 1941 at the age of 81 in Yadkin Valley, Caldwell Co., NC and was buried at White Springs Cemetery in Blowing Rock, Watauga Co., NC on 1 February 1941.^7609,7610
