Coffey, Emily M., 91, of Salem, died Thursday, December 11, 1997. She was a native of Rockbridge County and had been an area resident for the past 75 years.

She was the [sic] [a] member of the Christian Life Fellowship Church in Salem and was preceded in death by he husband, Samuel David Coffey Sr. and children, Thomas A. Coffey and Frances G. Spangler.

Survivors include her sons, Samuel David Coffey Jr., Everett Carlton Coffey; daughters, Phyllis Lucille Hayslett, Bernice McDaniel and Roma Ann Coffey; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 12 o'clock on Saturday, December 13, 1997 at the Cedar Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. David L. Tuell officiating.

The family will receive friends at the John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home in Salem on Friday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
