She was born Nov. 20, 1992, in Avery County to the late Laura Crump. Coffey was preceded in death by her former husband, McKinnley Coffey; two son, Roy and Paul Coffey; and four daughters, Willie Coffey, Dorothy Coffey, Wilma Coffey and Lorene Goodwin. Coffey was a housewife and a member of Zion Road Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Wheeler F. Coffey; one son, Charlie Coffey of Elk Park; three daughters, Christine Clark and Pauline Sprouse, both of Morganton, and Shirley Burse of Spruce Pine; four step-daughters, Shirley Lawson, Mary Rainey and Nancy Adams, all of Virginia, and Julie Orange of Charlottesville, Va.; one stepson, James F. Coffey of Lenoir; 21 grandchildren; 19 stepgrandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and 14 stepgreat-grandchildren. The funeral is 2 p.m. Sunday at Zion Road Baptist Church with the Revs. Edward Downs, Cade Burns, Jr. and Randy Gibson officiating. Burial will be at Calloway Cemetery in Newland [sic] [Cemetery is closer to Jonas Ridge]. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at Kirksey's Funeral Home in Morganton.
