Born in Caldwell County, he was the son of the late Washington and Matilda Coffey. His wife, who died several years ago, was Miss Annie Lee Wright. He was a farmer and a member of Setzers Creek Baptist Church. Surviving are seven daughters, two sons, 50 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
