Coffey, Mother of our Representative in General Assembly, Dies at Her Home at Shulls Mills [sic]. Mrs. David N. Coffey, mother of Hon. Blaine Coffey, our representative in the lower house of the legislature died suddenly at her home on Tuesday of this week. The news of the sad occurrence was wired to the son in Raleigh and he reached home in time for the funeral. The Raleigh correspondent of the Greensboro News has this to say in regard to the reception of the telegram by the son: The popular representative had been apprised of no illness and his first intimation of his mother's death was borne in a telegram from the father. He left the Hall very briefly to be alone, then returned and finished the day, leaving on an afternoon train for his home. His colleagues accompanied him to the station and sent a beautiful floral wreath. Caroline Lavinia Coffey and David Nathaniel Coffey were married circa 1886 in North Carolina.
