He was born January 9, 1899, in Nelson County, a son of the late John and Lucy Demastus Coffey. He was an orchardist and a member of Mountain Top Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Ethel Coffey in November 1971. He was also preceded in death by Mrs. Clatus Everitt and three brothers, Clint Coffey, Dellie Coffey and Luther Coffey. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Lawrence (Lovie) Brooks, Mrs. William (Hazel) German, both of Stuarts Draft, Mrs. Albert (Margaret) Cummings, of Stewartstown, Pa., and Mrs. Hollis J. (Shirley) Hanback of Waynesboro; two sons, Juria M. (Bill) Coffey of Stuarts Draft and Elwood C. (Jimmy) Coffey of Richmond; three sisters, Mrs. Ida Bridge and Miss Madge Coffey, both of Sherando and Mrs. Effie Demastus of Love; one brother, Jacob Coffey of Fishersville; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Memorial Chapel of the McDow-Tyree Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Basil Bish with interment in Augusta Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the McDow-Tyree Funeral Home from 7 to 8 tonight and also at the home of Mrs. Hollis Hanback. Active pallbearers will be Harold Wade, Ben Griffith, William E. Lucas Jr., Paul Tucker, Paul Simmons and Charles Bartlett. Honorary pallbearers will be Russell Mawyer, George Dudley Jr., Douglas Toman, A. C. Hawpe, Eugene Everitt, Golden Demastus, Aubrey Rutherford, Robert P. Rutherford, James R. Carey, J. B. Yount, Dr. T. L. Gorsuch, Dr. A. M. McLaughlin, John Shifflett and L. R. Link.
