E, 37th Inf. Regt. on 18 September 1861 and served until7619 July 1863 when he was retired to the Invalid Corps because of wounds. Cornelius James Coffey enlisted at age 21 on 9-18-1861, was wounded during the battle of 2nd Manassas (8-29-1862) and returned to duty in Jan-Feb.1863. He was "accidentally shot" in the right foot in mid-July 1863 and was reported absent 'wounded' in November. He was retired to the Invalid Corps by reason of disability from his wounds. He appeared in the census on 5 June 1900 in Watauga Twp., Watauga Co., NC.7620 Jones applied for his CW pension in Watauga Co., NC on 1 July 1912.7621 Jones died of a heart failure on 10 February 1917 at the age of 76 in Shulls Mill, Watauga Co., NC and was buried at White Springs Cemetery in Blowing Rock, Watauga Co., NC on 12 February 1917.7622,7623,7624,7625,7626 Mr. Jones Coffey of the Blowing Rock section, died on Saturday night rather suddenly. He was the father of Mr. Thomas Coffey, postmaster and business man of Blowing Rock and was about 70 years of age. He leaves a wife and several children. He was a member of the Methodist church and was a most excellent and useful man. ----- "NOTICE North Carolina, Watauga County, Sarah Coffey, widow of C. J.Coffey Deceased, and Junio [sic] Coffey, by her guardian, W. D. Ashley, VS, Thos Coffey, Emma Gragg and her husband, John Gragg. John Coffey and wife, Francis Coffey, Gwin Coffey and wife Julia Coffey, Charley Coffey and wife, Amanda Coffey, Hattie Stocks and husband Charlie Stocks, Rufus Coffey and Emma Coffey. "By virtue of an order of the Superior court in the above entitled action, appointed the undersigned a commissioner to sell the lands of C. J. Coffey, I will on the 6th day of May 1918 sell to the highest bidder for cash the following described lands to wit: Being the land on which the said C. J. Coffey lived at the time of his death, and being bounded on the north by the lands of the Boone Fork Lumber Co and W. S. Whiting, on the west by Roby Coffey on south by Gwyn Coffey and on the east by Rufus Coffey and Rufe Baldwin Con. about 150 acres. Said sale will be made subject to the dower right of the said Sarah Coffey, widow of C. J. Coffey, deceased, and allotted by T. L. Critcher, T. F. Greer and W. L. Holshouser, commissioners appointed by the court, to which reference is hereby made for more complete description of said dower. This 23d day of March 1918. T. E. They appeared in the census on 18 June 1880 in Watauga Co., NC.7630 Martha Jane Gragg, daughter of James Burton Gragg and Nancy A. Coffey, was born in 1843 in Yadkin Valley, Caldwell Co., NC. Martha died in 1900 at the age of 57 in Shulls Mill, Watauga Co., NC and was buried at White Springs Cemetery in Blowing Rock, Watauga Co., NC.7631,7632 Cornelius Jones "Jones" Coffey and Martha Jane Gragg had the following children:
